How to Measure Your Face Shape
Use four straight-line measurements to compare your facial proportions. Keep your head level, your expression neutral, and use the same unit throughout.
What You Need
- A flexible measuring tape
- A mirror and even lighting
- A hair tie or headband
- Notes for recording each measurement
Measure Your Forehead
Measure straight across the widest visible forehead area, usually between the hairline points near the temples.
Measure Your Cheekbones
Locate the widest point beneath the outer corners of the eyes and measure straight across without following the curve.
Measure Your Jaw
Measure from one jaw corner to the center of the chin and double it, or measure straight across both corners when practical. Use one method consistently.
Measure Face Length
Measure from the center of the visible hairline to the bottom of the chin with your head level.
Common Measurement Errors
- Curving the tape around the face
- Measuring hair instead of the hairline
- Smiling or tilting the head
- Mixing measurement methods
- Comparing absolute size rather than ratios
